Abstract

Each of metal elements includes an element body portion and an element head portion on radially inner and outer sides of left and right ring slots into which metal ring assemblies are fitted, respectively. The metal elements can be brought into contact with one another at inner contact surfaces and outer contact surfaces each of which are formed on the element body portion and the element head portion , respectively. The width W of each of the outer contact surfaces which is in contact with each other when the metal elements are in a chord portion of the metal belt, is set at a large value so as to prevent the yawing of the metal elements , and the width W of each of the inner contact surfaces which is in contact with each other when the metal elements are in a pulley-wound zone, is set at a small value so as to permit the yawing of the metal elements , whereby the absorption of a misalignment between a drive pulley and a driven pulley and the prevention of the zigzag movement of a metal belt can be reconciled.
