Protective helmet includes an outer shell adapted to protect a user's head. A connecting element is connected to the outer shell. At least a first shield is pivotally mounted to one of a journal and the outer shell. At least a second shield is pivotally mounted to the connecting element. Each of the first and second shields pivot with respect to the outer shell.
