Abstract

A process for preparing aliphatic C &agr;,&ohgr;-dicarboxylic acids by oxidation of C &agr;,&ohgr;-dienes with hydrogen peroxide or compounds which release hydrogen peroxide under the reaction conditions as is characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of a transition metal catalyst of group VI and of a mixture containing at least one organic acid and one aprotic organic solvent. A specific temperature profile is maintained at different phases of the reaction, which increases yield and selectivity.
