Abstract
A hydrogen storage material includes a vanadium-based body-centered cubic matrix phase containing at least titanium and nickel in solid solution in the matrix phase. There is a positive correlation between the titanium concentration distribution in the matrix phase and the nickel concentration distribution in the matrix phase. The hydrogen storage material has a high activation characteristic and can be produced without heat-treatment at low cost. The material has the ground formula V Ti Cr Ni , where 5≦x≦15, 5≦y≦25, 0<z<(½)x and z<5.
