Abstract
This invention relates to a novel advantageous process for the stereoselective preparation of 2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrates (HPB esters) and of their precursors. This is done by starting from readily accessible &agr;-unsaturated &agr;-hydroxy-&ggr;-keto esters which can be prepared by Claisen condensation.
