Abstract
An optical reader having a reduced thickness due to an optical sensor configuration that is reduced in height compared to conventional optical sensor configurations. A sensor aperture in which the optical sensor is mounted and a lens-barrel aperture through which a lens-barrel that houses the reader optical imaging system is inserted are defined in a mounting substrate. The optical sensor is mounted in the sensor aperture so that a part thereof protrudes below the mounting substrate, and the lens-barrel is mounted in the lens-barrel aperture so that a part thereof protrudes below the mounting substrate. Because the optical sensor is disposed in the above manner, the space required above the mounting substrate to house the sensor is equal to the height of the optical sensor.
