Abstract

A coaxial cable assembly consists of a plug coaxial connector subassembly and a jack coaxial connector subassembly . A plug connector and a jack connector are respectively mounted in molded plug and jack housings and respectively. The plug and jack housings and include a latching beam that is attachable to a raised bum on the other connector. The maximum force for disengaging the two subassemblies is greater than the engagement force because the bump includes a sloping forward surface and a steep rear surface . When used with connectors and that have equal mating and unmating forces, the total unmating force exceeds the mating force. The latches and the connectors are also positioned so that maximum mating forces of the two separate latching systems do not overlap, thus keeping the total mating force within acceptable limits.
