Abstract
An image forming apparatus has a monochrome mode for forming an image in a single color and a full-color mode for forming a full-color image in multiple colors. The image forming apparatus includes a photoconductor, a charging member contacting the photoconductor and charging the photoconductor with electricity, a power supply for applying, to the charging member, a DC voltage or a voltage including a DC voltage and an AC voltage in superimposed relation, and a unit for changing an AC component of the voltage applied to the charging member between the monochrome mode and the full-color mode.
