Abstract
A beam current detection unit ( ) detects the brightness of the image displayed on a screen ( ) on the basis of a current J flowing inside a CRT ( ). A drive control unit ( ) selectively closes and opens the switches ( ) and ( ) in accordance with the detected brightness. Restriction characteristic against a current (I) flowing in a secondary winding ( ) included in an inductor ( ) is varied stepwise so that the inductance of a primary winding ( ) is controlled. Thereby, the frequency characteristic of the gain of an amplifying unit ( ) for amplifying an image signal (Pin) is controlled. The high frequency component of the gain is enhanced for a binary image of a normal display, whereas it is enfeebled for a binary image of a reverse display, for example. Thus, the visual quality of the image is optimized depending on the type of the image.
