Abstract

A system is provided for monitoring the loading of a diesel particulate filter . System is adapted for use in combination with a vehicle including an internal combustion diesel engine of the type having several substantially identical cylinders which drivably rotate a crankshaft . Engine includes an intake manifold which selectively delivers air to cylinders , and an exhaust manifold which selectively discharges exhaust gasses from cylinders . System includes an engine control unit or controller which is communicatively connected to a pressure sensor that is operatively disposed in the intake manifold , and other vehicle operating conditions sensors . Controller monitors the signals received from sensors and , and based upon the received signals, estimates the loading of the DPF and determines when the DPF should be regenerated.
