Abstract

An internal combustion engine ( ) which comprises at least one cylinder ( ), at least two suction valves ( ) per cylinder ( ), and individual suction channels ( ) of longer and shorter length for each cylinder ( ). Each suction channel ( ) communicates with a suction valve ( ) respectively. At least two of the suction valves ( ) have different closing times in order to increase the air quantity sucked into the cylinder ( ), and thereby increase the torque and power of the internal combustion engine ( ). According to one embodiment, a throttle can be arranged in each suction channel ( ) and the shorter suction channel ( ) can be provided with a smaller area of cross section than the longer suction channel ( ).
