Abstract
Airfoils having high lift to drag characteristics at low Reynolds number are disclosed. The airfoils including a leading edge , a trailing edge spaced from the leading edge, an upper surface extending from the leading edge to the trailing edge, and a lower surface extending from the leading edge to the trailing edge. An airfoil designed for a tip region of a blade has a thickness in a range of 3% to 13%, a Reynolds number in a range from 120,000 to 400,000, and a maximum lift coefficient in a range from 1.0 to 1.2. An airfoil designed for a midspan region of a blade has a thickness in a range of 3% to 13%, a Reynolds number in a range from 90,000 to 200,000, and a maximum lift coefficient in a range from 1.4 to 1.6. An airfoil designed for a root region of a blade has a thickness in a range of 5% to 15%, a Reynolds number in a range from 60,000 to 120,000, and a maximum lift coefficient in a range from 1.8 to 2.0.
