Abstract

For use in a regulator, a driver ( ) has a first transistor pair ( ) for alternatively pulling a drive line (OUT, ) to magnitudes in a limited magnitude range between first and second reference lines ( ) depending on an input signal (IN, ). Parallel to the first pair ( ), a second transistor pair ( ) alternatively pulls the drive line (OUT, ) substantially to the reference lines ( ). The second pair ( ) is controlled by a comparator arrangement ( ) comparing the input signal to first (REF ) and second (REF ) reference signals and activating the second pair ( ) substantially only when the signal (OUT) on the drive line ( ) driven by the first pair reaches a magnitude limit. The transistors ( ) of the first pair are arranged as emitter followers and the transistors ( ) of the second pair are arranged as switched current sources.
