Abstract
Rapid reestablishment of permanent virtual circuits (PVCs ) between frame relay switches in a frame relay ( ) is accomplished by periodically polling the switches by a configuration controller ( ) via an out-of-band connection to obtain PVC information from the switches. Should a fault occur, the fault is isolated and mitigated. Thereafter, the configuration controller ( ) downloads the stored PVC information to the switches in parallel via the out-of-band connection to enable the switches to re-establish the PVCs quickly, rather than wait to do so via an in-band connection.
