Abstract
An expandable hybrid electric generator ( ) includes a number of power blocks ( ) that may be nearly identical to one another. The power blocks ( ) are controlled by a master controller ( ), and an external supervisor ( ) performs some master controller ( ) functions should the master controller ( ) fault. The power blocks ( ) each include a battery bank ( ) and an inverter/charger ( ), both of which couple to a DC bus ( ). The inverter ( ) and an AC generator ( ) couple to an AC bus ( ). The DC busses ( ) of the power blocks ( ) remain independent of one another, but all power blocks ( ) couple together at the AC bus ( ).
