Abstract

A novel insect repellent composition is provided that contains about 0.8 wt % to about 0.12 wt % oil of citronella, about 20 wt % to about 40 wt % emollient, and up to about 15 wt % C to C alkyl benzoate in an alcohol-containing vehicle suitable for topical application. The insect repellent compound may also contain a sunscreen and/or an ingredient that provides the insect repellent composition with water resistant/waterproof properties.
