Abstract
A method to eliminate the play between the chock ( ) and the support element ( ) in four-high rolling stands ( ), the rolling stand ( ) comprising working rolls ( ) and back-up rolls ( ) assembled on respective chocks ( ), support blocks ( ) to support the chocks ( ) and a stationary housing ( ), the support blocks ( ) to support the chocks ( ) and a stationary housing ( ), the support blocks ( ) being arranged between the uprights of the stationary housing ( ) and the relative chocks ( ) and supporting means for the crossover lateral displacement of the rolls ( ), the stand ( ) also comprising transmission means to transmit a thrust ( ) acting on the upper chock ( ) and contrasting the rolling thrust ( ), the method providing to define the value of the inward flection of the uprights of the housing ( ) according to the value of the rolling thrust ( ), to define the entity of play ( ) resulting, with the uprights ( ) in this condition of flection, between the chock ( ) and relative support block ( ) during the crossover movements of the chocks ( ), and to displace at least one support block ( ) towards the relative chock ( ) so as to minimize the play ( ) to a desired value at least during the rolling passes. A device to achieve the above method.
