Abstract

A plurality of signal contact grooves are provided in a laterally extending row, each groove opening through the front surface of a rear wall of a housing . In each of the signal contact grooves , a first signal-transmission contact and a second signal-transmission contact are mounted in a front and rear pair. The second arm portions of the second signal-transmission contacts , which are positioned rearward, are positioned above and extend longer than the second arm portions of the first signal-transmission contacts , which are positioned forward. As a result, the contact portions and of the first and second signal-transmission contacts and are aligned in upper and lower rows in front of the front surface of the rear wall . This design is advantageous in reducing the number of steps necessary for the production of the signal-transmission contacts of the connector, and it also makes the mounting of the contacts into the housing easy, improving productivity.
