Abstract

The invention presents a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus capable of reducing the size and preventing external force from propagating directly to the internal mechanism. To achieve the object, a main arm and a sub-arm are constituted so as not to intersect with a photo detector always during rotating operation within a plane including the photo detector and the dimension can be hence reduced in the width direction of the apparatus, and moreover as the wall thickness of MIC-SW is reduced, the upper end of the MIC-SW is held by a back plate so that the dimension of the apparatus can be reduced also in the depth direction, and further a cassette holder is locked by a damper to prevent effects from outside when a sub-chassis moves from unloading position to loading position.
