Abstract

The present invention relates to methods of treating periodontal disease in a mammal. The methods include administering to an animal an s effective amount of an inhibitor of sPLA,. The inhibitors may be advantageously delivered as a composition that includes various carriers. In certain aspects of the invention, inhibitors used in the method include substituted indole or substituted pyrrole sPLA,inhibitors. Also provided are compositions that include the sPLA,carriers for oral delivery of the inhibitors.
