Abstract
Chemically modified tetracyclines are a new class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor necrosis factor alpha. These chemically modified tetracyclines are used in a method for inhibiting COX-2, which in turn inhibits PGE,, and/or inhibiting TNF&agr;. They are also used in a method for treating a disease or disorder associated with elevated activities of COX-2 (i.e., increased production of PGE,) and/or TNF&agr;.
