Abstract
A color image reading apparatus comprises at least three line sensors arranged at predetermined intervals in the sub-scanning direction, an imaging optical system including at least one anamorphic lens for forming an image of an original on the line sensors, and a drive means for driving the original and the line sensors relative to each other in the sub-scanning direction. Each line sensor has a plurality of light receiving pixels arranged in the main-scanning direction. The apparatus satisfies the requirement expressed by the formula |Dis(s)|<0.25W/S,, where S,is the distance separating adjacently located line sensors, W is the width of the light receiving pixels in the sub-scanning direction and Dis(s) is the distortion component of the imaging optical system in the sub-scanning direction.
