Abstract
A system and method for statistically modeling the operation of a directional terminal antenna in a wireless link. When using a directional terminal antenna, received power may be enhanced by as much as the antenna gain. In local scattering, however, the enhancement will be smaller. The system and method model this decrement, known as the gain reduction factor, &Dgr;, for fixed suburban paths, based on angle-of-arrival measurements. The system and method also provide the capability to statistically model the transmission performance of a directional terminal antenna in a wireless link while analyzing influences of antenna height, antenna beamwidth, distance and season.
