Abstract
A buffering sleeve (,) is slid onto an outer end portion of an optical fiber cable (,) that includes an optical fiber surrounded by a buffer covering (,). The buffering sleeve (,) is crimped onto the buffer covering (,). A bared length of optical fiber (,) extends endwise outwardly from the buffering sleeve (,), into and through a center opening (,) in a ferrule (,) that is at the outer end of a connector fitting (,). Connector fitting (,) includes an inwardly opening inner socket (,) that snugly receives the buffer sleeve (,). The inner end portion of the inner socket (,) is crimped onto an inner end portion (,) of the buffering sleeve (,). The bared optical fiber (,) projects forwardly through center opening (,) in ferrule (,). Outwardly of the ferrule (,), the optical fiber (,) is cleaved and polished, flush with the outer end (,) of the ferrule (,).
