Abstract

While a crawler body,is traveling, infrared sensors, and an elevational difference calculator, incorporated in a controller, detects the magnitude of a step present ahead of the crawler body,. A safety speed calculator, calculates a safety speed based on the magnitude of the step detected and on the position of the platform, relative to the crawler body,, which position is detected by various detectors, and by a position calculator,. A comparator, compares this safety speed with the traveling speed of the crawler body,, and if the current speed of the crawler body,is greater than the safety speed, then the comparator, outputs a warning signal. Upon receiving this signal, a restrictor, controls a valve controller,to reduce the speed of the crawler body, such that the crawler body, can travel over the step safely.
