Abstract

A flat radiator having dielectrically impeded, strip-like cathodes (,) and anodes (,) which are arranged alternately next to one another on the wall of the discharge vessel (,) has in each case an additional anode (,) between neighbouring cathodes (,), that is to say an anode pair (,) is arranged in each case between the cathodes (,). The cathodes (,) have nose-like extensions (,) which face the respectively neighbouring anodes (,) and are arranged more densely in a spatially increasing fashion in the direction of the edges (,) of the flat radiator (,). As an alternative or in addition thereto, the two anode strips (,) of each anode pair (,) are widened in the direction of the edges (,) of the flat radiator (,) at one end in the direction of the respective partner strip (,or,). Owing to these measures, the surface luminous density of the flat radiator (,) is largely constant towards the edges (,) in pulsed operation.
