Abstract
A roll mill comprising a retaining stand with two distant stanchions (,), at least two working rolls (,) each rotating respectively in two chocks, and means for applying bending loads to each end of both working rolls, said means comprising, for both chocks (,), two sets of, respectively, positive and negative bending jacks. According to the invention, both working rolls (,) of said roll mill are fitted with identical chocks (,) capable, by simple turning-over, to be mounted on either of the said working rolls (,), each chock having, on each side of the clamping plane (P,), a lug (,) with a staggered profile comprising at least one bearing part (,) extending over a portion only of the length of the chock (,) so as to provide at least one free space (,), and each negative bending jack (,) of a first chock (,) is placed on the same side of the rolling plane (P,) as the positive bending jack (,) of the second chock (,), which crosses the rolling plane (P,) passing through the said free space (,) left beside the bearing part (,) of the first chock (,).
