Abstract
Leakage of engine coolant into the engine lubricating oil can be detected to high sensitivity levels by dissolving a glycol-soluble salt of,Rb as a tracer in the coolant and detecting the beta or gamma ray radiation from the tracer containing coolant in a suspected leakage path or in the lubricating oil. A useful application of this detection method is in the region of the head gasket (i.e., between the cylinder block and cylinder head) of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine.
