A filter for a piston type high-pressure fuel pump is not clogged from freezing even under a hostile condition. The filter is provided in a fuel intake route (,) of a piston type high-pressure fuel pump, and it has many square openings. The length of one side of each opening ranges from 50 &mgr;m to 200 &mgr;m.
