Abstract

The present invention provides in situ amplification methods for the detection of a target nucleic acid molecule. The methods use a molecule termed “molecular tape” to retain the amplified target nucleic acid molecule within a cell upon amplification. The molecular tape, which may be used with a variety of amplification methods, improves the in situ detection of an amplified target molecule.
