Abstract
A melting furnace for insulating materials is provided with a cooled crucible (,) having continuous metal side malls, a partitioned and cooled bottom (,) and at least one induction coil (,) placed under the bottom which serves as the sole heating means. The depth of the melting bath contained in the crucible and the excitation frequency of the induction coil are selected so that the depth and half of the inside radius of the crucible are less than the skin thickness of the bath.
