Abstract

A blockage preventing apparatus used for a water jet propulsion unit (,) is provided with a screen (,), springs (,), an engagement protrusion (,) and an engagement end portion (,). The screen (,) is rotatably supported with respect to the front end of a suction port (,) and movable between a closed position at which the screen covers the suction port (,) and an open position shifted downward from the suction port (,). The springs (,) urge the screen (,) to the closed position through a working shaft (,). The engagement protrusion (,) is provided at the working shaft (,) and moves together with the screen (,). The engagement end portion (,) moves from the first position and moves beyond the second position. When the engagement end portion (,) moves from the first position to the second position, the engagement end portion (,) is engaged with and presses the engagement protrusion (,) to thereby move the screen (,) from the closed position to the open position. When the engagement end portion (,) moves beyond the second position, the engagement protrusion (,) is disengaged from the engagement end portion (,) and the screen (,) is momentarily returned from the open position to the closed position by the springs (,).
