Abstract
A speed control unit for a pneumatic rotation motor having a stator (,) with an air inlet passage (,), a rotor (,) journalled in the stator (,). The speed control unit includes a speed governor (,) operated by two or more fly-weight members (,), and an overspeed safety device (,). The rotor (,) is formed with a coaxial blind bore (,) in which is secured a mounting structure (,) for supporting the fly-weight members (,), the valve element (,) and the bias spring (,) of the speed governor (,) inside the rotor (,). The overspeed safety device (,) includes a flow restricting element (,) displaceably guided in the air inlet passage (,) and locked in an inactive rest position by a trip element (,), and a speed responsive actuator (,) that is co-rotative with the rotor (,). The speed responsive actuator (,) may be formed by an elastically deformable spring element (,) secured to the speed governor valve element (,) and arranged to be radially bent by centrifugal action to hit and release the trip element (,) to thereby free the flow restricting element (,) at the attainment of a predetermined speed level.
