Abstract
A continuous casting mould wall (,) has a non-metallic coating (,) thereon the thickness of which is different at first and third regions (,) closer to the inlet and outlet ends respectively of the mould passage (,), from that at a second region (,), whereby the meniscus of molten metal can be in the first region (,) and solidification can commence in contact with the first or second regions (,), whilst the solidifying casting passes through the third region (,) with reduced wear on the mould.
