Abstract

A process for preparing pyrroles of the formula I: ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are identical or different and are hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl groups having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, by dehydrogenation of pyrrolidines of the formula II: ##STR2## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are as defined above, in the presence of a supported noble metal catalyst is described. In this process, the dehydrogenation is carried out at from 150 to 300.degree. C. and pressures of from 0.01 to 50 bar and the noble metal catalyst comprises from 30 to 100% by weight of:
