Abstract
A process for the preparation of dialkyl phenylmalonates of formula I, ##STR1## wherein R, R.sup.1, L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 have the meaning given in the claims which comprises treating an phenylbromide of formula II ##STR2## with a dialkyl malonate of formula III ##STR3## in an inert solvent in the presence of a base and a copper salt, wherein 1.0 mole of the phenylbromide of formula II is treated with the enolate obtained from 2.0 to 4.0 moles of the dialkyl malonate of formula III and 2.0 to 3.8 moles of the base.
