Abstract
A technique offloads a central directory services (CDS) function from a mainframe of an advanced peer-to-peer networking (APPN) network to a light-weight directory access protocol (LDAP) Accessible Directory Services (LADS) residing off the mainframe on another dissimilar network. At least one network node of the APPN network is configured with LDAP interface that enables communication with the LADS. The LADS is configured to provide CDS functionality on the dissimilar network, such as a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol network. In response to a request from a node on the APPN network, the LDAP interface accesses the LADS using the LDAP protocol in accordance with a client-server architecture.
