Abstract
An oxide single crystal having a nominal composition expressed BaM.sub.2 O.sub.4 (M is at least an element selected from the group consisting of Al and Ga), M of which is partially substituted with B, is provided. The BaM.sub.2 O.sub.4 oxide single crystal has an asymmetric central portion formed around B and thereby exhibits a non-linear optical property.
