Abstract
A catalyst containing Re.sub.2 O.sub.7 on an inorganic support, wherein the Re.sub.2 O.sub.7 component is on the support in the form of Re.sub.2 O.sub.7 particles having a diameter of <1 nm, the rhenium surface area, determined by N.sub.2 O pulse chemisorption, is at least 0.4 m.sup.2 /g, and the Re.sub.2 O.sub.7 component is distributed over the support in the form of an outer shell having a maximum thickness of 1.5 mm.
