Abstract

A method of manufacturing a cathode active material and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including the cathode active material and having a large capacity, an excellent cycle characteristic at high environmental temperatures and satisfactory discharging characteristic under a large load are provided. Cobalt salts, lithium salts and aluminum hydroxide salts are mixed with one another and a prepared mixture is baked so that a cathode active material is obtained which is expressed by Li.sub.x Co.sub.(1-y) Al.sub.y O.sub.2 (where 0.05.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.1.10 and 0.01.ltoreq.y<0.10) is obtained.
