Abstract
There is disclosed a novel compound having a fluoromethyl group which itself has a large electron attractive property at an asymmetric carbon atom on a tetrahydropyran ring, which is expected to be a novel type of a liquid crystal. This novel compound is an optically active fluorinated compound represented by the formula: ##STR1##
