A liposome composition containing encapsulated compound in stable precipitated form, and a method for producing the composition, are disclosed. The concentration of precipitated compound within the liposomes is severalfold higher than that in the bulk medium, and the concentration of compound within the liposomes is not reduced in the presence of a proton or alkali metal-ion ionophore added to the suspension.
