Abstract
A locking-blade pocketknife includes an elongate handle having side margins that define a boundary of a side major surface of the handle. A blade is pivotally connected at its heel to a pivot end of the handle and adjacent the side major surface of the handle for movement between a folded position and an extended position. An exposed outer side of the blade remains exposed in die folded position. A cutting edge of the blade is located within the boundary of and in proximity to the side major surface of the handle when the blade is in the folded position to prevent a user touching the folded blade from being cut. A stop bolt mounted on tee handle limits the pivotal movement of the blade to approximately 180.degree.. A locking mechanism for releasably locking the blade in Ore extended position comprises a spring portion of the handle. A detent formed in the blade adjacent the Sue engages a raised surface located on the spring portion to releasably hold the blade in the folded position and prevent accidental extension of the blade.
