Abstract

A rotational speed sensor generates pulses having a period proportional to the speed of a motor, while a pulse period calculator section calculates the period of the pulses. A jamming determination section calculates the motor load based on the pulse period and detects that an object is jammed when the load exceeds a predetermined threshold. Once it has been judged than an object is jammed, a drive control section stops and controls the motor for reverse rotation, thereby releasing the object. A door opening and closing detection section further detects the opening or closing operation of a door which is one disturbance factor. If the door is opened or closed, an inhibit control section inhibits jamming judgment for a predetermined period of time thereafter. This prevents an incorrect judgment due to the opening or closing of the door.
