Abstract
Methods of inhibiting the export of a leaderless protein from a cell by contacting the cell with a compound that inhibits the binding of the leaderless protein and a transport molecule are provided. Leaderless proteins include FGF-1, FGF-2, IL-1.alpha., IL-1.beta., CNTF and HIV-tat. These methods are useful in treatment of various conditions, including tumors and diabetes.
