A zoom lens system for use on compact cameras, which has a high zoom ratio, is provided at a minimum cost. The zoom lens system comprises a first positive lens group G1, a second positive lens group G2 and a third negative lens group G3 with a focal length of the system varied with changes in spacings between the lens groups.
