Abstract

The present invention comprises a method for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of at least one histamine H.sub.3 -receptor agonist. It has been unexpectedly found that H.sub.3 -receptor agonists are effective at alleviating the effects of IBD and, therefore, are useful for treating IBD, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
