Abstract
Disclosed are hxuB and hxuC genes and DNA segments from H. influenzae such as H. influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHI). The HxuB and HxuC proteins, being surface expressed, are contemplated for use in the preparation of vaccines against pathological H. influenzae infections, and in particular, vaccines for use in children and other individuals who respond poorly to capsular-based vaccines. DNA segments encoding these proteins and anti- HxuB and HxuC antibodies will also be of in various screening, diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
