An indazole derivative of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group comprising --CONHNH.sub.2, --CONHN(CH.sub.3).sub.2 and --CH.dbd.CH--COOH, X and Y, the same or different from each other, are halogen, and salts thereof and an antifertility composition comprising the same.
