2-Hydroxy-6-trifluoromethylpyridine is prepared by reacting 2-chloro-6-trifluoromethylpyridine with an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide in a sealed vessel at a temperature of at least 140.degree. C. under autogenous pressure.
